A Short Break With A Difference
Estimated reading time 2 minutes
Thinking of booking a weekend away but fancy staying somewhere out of the ordinary? For most people a B&B or hotel are what first come to mind when planning an escape, but if you want a short break with a difference there are lots to choose from. Whether you fancy a few nights in a tower or a holiday on a narrow boat there is something for every interest and budget.
Are you fascinated by history? Maybe a few nights in a building dating back to Henry VIII would be your perfect getaway. The Landmark Trust is a charity that offers short breaks in restored historic buildings. You can select from many different buildings including castles and water towers. In keeping with the historic theme there are no TV’s, radios or telephones – so you might have to talk to each other! However, if the thought of being without Wi-Fi is too alarming there are companies that provide a historic experience but include all of the amenities of modern life.
If you prefer contemporary architecture, how about staying in an ultra modern house. Living Architecture is an organisation that offers people a chance to rent houses designed by some of the most talented architects working today. Their latest house, A House for Essex by Grayson Perry, was the subject of a recent Channel 4 programme and has been dubbed the Essex ‘Taj Mahal’.
For railway enthusiasts, what could be better than sleeping in a beautifully restored railway carriage or disused station?
There are many companies offering a vast range of unique properties for short breaks, so if you have always fancied staying in a lighthouse, windmill or tree house then go for it, and make it a mini-break to remember!
