If Carlsberg did Christmas Lights…

It’s not just Oxford Circus that know how to put on a serious lights display; residential areas all over the world are giving the big boys a run for their money as they deck out their houses with dazzling light displays we reckon could be seen all the way from space.

Here’s our pick of the best, most extravagant human grottos worldwide; yes – their electric bill will probably be sky high but at least Santa won’t forget to pay a visit…

Alex Goodhind’s house is Melksham, Wiltshire certainly never fails to attract attention… Striking as it is, we’re not sure we can see a front door or any hint of house at all?! We wouldn’t want to be the postman trying to figure out where exactly to post the Christmas cards.

New Yorkers have always been known for their garishness, and this house in the borough of Queens is no exception. Complete with candy cane alike steps, a family of snowmen and ten lords a-leaping, this house could belong to Father Christmas himself.

A little less extravagant than other examples but just as endearing, these houses in Hadleigh, Suffolk appear to have made a team effort to festively spruce up their street – if that doesn’t instil some feelings of  Christmas spirit in the neighbourhood then we don’t know what will…

Lucy Spata’s elaborately decorated house in Brooklyn, New York brings in the crowds; we have a sneaky feeling this one might end up on Instagram..

We doubt any children will be eager to sit on this particular Santa’s lap… This well kept New York pad plays host to quite possibly the biggest Father Christmas we’ve ever seen, and somehow still manages to look classy. Let’s hope the home-owners have stocked up on cookies, milk and giant carrots (for giant Santa’s giant reindeer…)

Sometimes competing with a neighbour proves to be too much effort…Kristina Green, Arizona, instead opted to revel in her neighbour Eric’s 20,000 light display glory…

Aptly named the ‘Christmas House’, this property in Virginia is decorated with no less than 65,000 lights using 6km of wiring – wowzers. We’d stand and stare, too…
